Band

3

EXTREMELY LIMITED USER

4

LIMITED USER

5

MODEST USER

6

COMPETENT USER

7

GOOD USER

8

VERY GOOD USER

9

EXPERT USER

What is Quiz Bowl?

What is Quiz Bowl?

By Sandy Stephens

Quiz bowl is a game in which two teams compete head-to-head to answer questions from all areas of knowledge some might include: History, Literature, Science, Fine Arts, Current Events, Sports, and Math.

Organized quiz bowl competitions are very populararound the world and at most grade levels; it is particularly popular at the high school and college level, though middle school, elementary school events exist as well. In past days Tarbut was invited to assist to Colegio Berta Von Glümer to attend such an event. Here are some words from the team members:

Ian Charabati–“I think the event of The Quiz Bowl held at Colegio Berta Von Glümer was well organized except for the Math Section because the problems needed to be better developed by their teacher. On three occasions our team had to rebuttal on the answers given. During the event I felt good about going as a team since we worked well.

There were three things I felt were missing from this activity one of them is the way they setup the debate, it is not as we know it or have practiced here in school. Another aspect would be the way each tent had their activities organized, due to the fact that other schools arrived late to the event all the schedule changed and what were supposed to be fifteen minute activities were not kept. And the final aspect is that in the guide they sent it stipulated student interaction and there was none since each school participated individually except in the part of their debate activity.

I enjoyed the invitation and I would like to go to future events like this and as a group even organize this activity here in our school with specific subjects, student interaction among other schools and dynamic activities.”

Ilan Himelfarb–“I think that participating in The Quiz Bowl was a very good idea. It allows us to know how we are doing in comparison to other schools and it also creates collaboration between the school and students, which improves the relationships. I liked it, however I would have liked the receiving school’s teachers to be better prepared, making it work better. Still I had fun!”
